Wealth inequality remains stark under SNP

Scottish Liberal Democrat Willie Rennie MSP has today said that too many Scots are being left behind as new figures revealed a fifth of households have so little savings that they would fall into poverty within a month should they lose their income.
The Scottish Government’s Wealth in Scotland report shows how wealthy Scottish households are.
It shows that:
- The wealthiest 10% of households had £1.3 in total wealth, whereas the least wealthy 10% had £7,600.
- A fifth of households had insufficient savings to keep them above the poverty line for a month should they lose their income.
- 3% of households were in unmanageable debt.
- Just over a third of households did not own any property, and a third of adults had no private pension savings.
Willie Rennie said:
"So many people are finding that there is nothing left at the end of the month.
“People are paying the price for the SNP’s incompetence and Liz Truss and the Conservatives crashing the economy.
“Scottish Liberal Democrats would create more opportunities by boosting skills and putting Scotland at the forefront of industries like renewables, AI, defence and precision medicine.
“We also want to cut bills for ordinary Scots, which is why we’re calling for a national insulation programme and new measures to break the link between gas and electricity costs, letting people get the benefits of cheap, clean power.
“All of that is so important if we want to tackle these inequalities, support households and get our economy moving.”
