Wishart responds to Sandness incident

Shetland MSP and Scottish Liberal Democrat Beatrice Wishart MSP has responded to the incident in Sandness, Shetland, where Police Scotland confirmed that around 16:55 on Sunday 11th February officers were called to a report of a disturbance.

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a man was taken into custody.

Ms Wishart said:

“First and foremost, my thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased and I extend condolences to them.

“This is a terrible event that has shocked the close-knit Sandness community and, indeed, wider Shetland.

“I have spoken with the police and understand that they are not looking for anyone else and that enquiries are ongoing.

“My thoughts are also with Police Scotland and other emergency services personnel who attended the scene.”
