Wendy Chamberlain, MP for North East Fife, raised the need for trafficking investigations to take place in relation to the abuse by Mohamed Fayed and secured a commitment from the Prime Minister to meet with survivors during Prime Minister’s Questions.

Chamberlain is a co-chair of the APPG for the Survivors of Fayed and Harrods, alongside Dave Robertson, MP for Lichfield. The APPG works with survivors, campaigners and legal experts to support victims and press for accountability and systemic reform.

She urged authorities to recognise the crimes committed as trafficking and asked the Prime Minister whether he would acknowledge that characterisation and meet directly with Survivors and the APPG to hear their concerns.

Responding in the Chamber, the Prime Minister thanked Chamberlain for raising the issue and for her work supporting Survivors. He confirmed that he will meet with the APPG and victims, noting that although there is an ongoing police investigation, it is still important to listen to those affected.

Commenting afterwards, Wendy Chamberlain MP and Dave Robertson MP said:

“We’re beyond pleased the Prime Minister has agreed to meet with the APPG and, crucially, with Survivors themselves. Their voices must be heard.

“As the first files relating to Epstein and Mandelson are released today, we must pay equal attention to the UK’s Epstein. For too long, the crimes of Mohamed Fayed and the institutional failures that enabled him have not received the scrutiny they deserve.

“We welcome this week’s actions by the Metropolitan Police, and urge them to formally classify the crimes that took place as trafficking. This will enable a full investigation into all the institutions and individuals who committed or enabled crimes over decades.

“Survivors have shown enormous courage in speaking out and they deserve justice, recognition and meaningful change.

“The APPG will continue working with Survivors to ensure their experiences are properly acknowledged and that the institutions involved are held to account.”
