Vance should set record straight on buffer zones

Responding to Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Scotland and his comments to the Munich Security Conference in January in which he claimed people who live within safe access zones had been sent letters by the Scottish government warning them about praying within their homes, Scottish Liberal Democrat MP Susan Murray said:
“Vance’s comments on abortion buffer zones were wrong, dangerous and idiotic in equal measure.
“This legislation does not target private prayer in homes, it is about preventing behaviour which can obstruct or discourage women from accessing medical care. The last thing women need is for a man wholly ignorant about Scottish politics and legislation to start spreading nonsense.
“He should use this trip to set the record straight about these buffer zones and the role the play in ensuring unimpeded access to essential care.
“Hopefully he can get through this visit without doing anything else weird.”
