Scottish Liberal Democrat lead candidate for the South of Scotland region Duncan Dunlop has today launched a tractor and trailer poster campaign in the Scottish Borders, urging voters to back the party on the peach regional ballot paper.

The campaign stresses that the peach regional ballot paper is the way to secure committed Liberal Democrat representation for rural and farming communities across the region.

Duncan was brought up on a farm and went on to be a successful chief executive. With 25+ years working with vulnerable young people and developing charities across the UK and internationally, he led Who Cares? Scotland for almost a decade, transforming it into a globally respected advocacy organisation and initiating the Scottish Care Review (2017).

The Scottish Liberal Democrats recently set out proposals to:

• Ringfence agriculture funding, protect support payments and move to 3-year funding deals to give farmers the confidence and certainty they need.

• Declare the Scottish Government’s support for Alistair Carmichael MP’s Food Supply Chain Fairness Bill to get fairer prices for farmers and food producers across the UK, bringing new checks and balances on the power of the big supermarkets.

• Support a new bespoke UK-EU customs union, making it easier for businesses to export to key markets in the EU.

• Champion the scrapping of the family farm tax altogether, protecting generational farming, rural livelihoods and food security.

Launching the campaign, Duncan said:

“I want people in the South of Scotland to know that Scottish Liberal Democrats are on their side.

“I have knocked on hundreds of doors and people are frustrated at decisions being taken too far away and not feeling as if they are heard. Scottish Liberal Democrats are committed to changing that because we believe in putting local communities first.

“Scottish Liberal Democrats will stand up for our farmers because we know they are the linchpins of our rural communities. We have set out the most comprehensive plan for farming of any party in this election because caring about our country must include caring about how we feed our country.

"This builds on the excellent work of Alistair Carmichael in Westminster, advocating for farmers, food security and fair prices.

“However, we can only do that if people back us on the peach regional ballot paper. That’s the best way to elect a Scottish Liberal Democrat representative, defeat the SNP and Reform and deliver change.”

Farmer and agricultural consultant Mike Halliday said:

"The Lib Dems' Alistair Carmichael is the only one talking some sense into some idiots in parliament."
