Scottish Liberal Democrats welcome maternity review and call for urgent action

Responding to news that the Independent Review of Maternity Services is now underway, Scottish Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Adam Harley MSP said:

“This is a welcome step toward tackling a national crisis that puts too many women at unnecessary risk.

“Scottish Liberal Democrats have long been raising the alarm about patchy rural maternity services, a shortage of midwifery appointments and an alarming number of diversions between different hospitals.

“While the review’s findings will go some way toward fixing Scotland’s maternity services, they are no substitute for taking action where it’s clearly needed. There are lives to be saved, and the Scottish government cannot drag its feet any longer.”
