Scotland's A&E crisis continues with fewer than 60% of patients seen in under 4 hours
Scottish Liberal Democrat MP Susan Murray has reacted to new statistics showing that wait times at Scottish A&E departments remain unacceptably long.
Data released today show that in the week ending 11th October 2026, only 59.7% of attendees were seen in under 4 hours; 15.3% waited over 8 hours, and 6.7% waited over 12 hours. The figures are consistently above the weekly average for 2025.
Susan Murray said:
"If Scots should be able to count on anything, surely it should be timely medical help in an emergency. These figures show that for too many people, the reality is very different.
"That 40% of people are waiting more than 4 hours to be seen at A&E is shocking enough; that anyone is waiting more than 12 hours should be considered a scandal.
"Scottish Liberal Democrats will continue to hold the SNP to account for its failure to ease the pressures on our NHS, end corridor care, and give Scotland the health service it deserves."
