Russell Findlay’s journey to moustache twirling villain continues

Responding to Russell Findlay’s speech in which he called for limiting the Scottish Child Payment to two children, Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Jamie Greene said:

“The nasty party is well and truly back. Russell Findlay might be happy leaning into the role of the moustache twirling villain but the bottom line is that this policy will push children in communities like mine in Greenock into poverty and it must be condemned.

“I don’t think its right to sacrifice these children’s futures with Dickensian policies just because you are worried about being outflanked by Reform.

“The answer is to ensure that these kids get a good education and their parents can find well-paying jobs. Welfare reform should not be about pushing people into immediate poverty, it should be about supporting people back into work.

“With a growing workforce, we have a growing economy which will pay for top quality public services. That’s the ambitious and fiscally responsible programme that the Scottish Liberal Democrats will take into May’s election.”
