Rennie comments on latest ferry news
Responding to the news that CalMac has paid in full for three unfinished ferries built in Turkey, Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Willie Rennie said:
"This will be wholely depressing news for those who are dependent on ferry services.
"They have already experienced excessive delays on the ferries commissioned by CMAL for the Scottish Government. This potentially adds more uncertainty to the future of the fleet.
"Whilst CMAL's decision to buy the ferries early may be the right one, there is significant risk involved in completing these vessels on time.
"It is important that CMAL and the government keep everybody informed as soon as any revised timetable and potential cost increases become clear."
