Commenting as the University of Dundee announced plans to cut 190 more jobs, Scottish Liberal Democrat Willie Rennie said:

“The news from Dundee University prolongs the agony that staff have endured for almost two years. The Scottish Government’s financial intervention seems to have had little effect but to delay job losses rather than prevent them.

“Whilst the government expressed anger and surprise at the latest round of job losses, they have failed to offer any kind of solution.

“The government should explore every means to support the university and its staff to ensure it has a positive future.

“We need a long-term financial solution for all our universities, which is why I argued for a cross-party, cross-sector initiative. We cannot afford for the Dundee crisis to be repeated elsewhere.”
