Reid endures ferry fiasco first-hand in Argyll and Bute

Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Argyll & Bute Alan Reid was campaigning on Mull this week, but was unable to return to the mainland on Wednesday evening because both ferries on the Oban-Craignure route had broken down.

He had to cut his visit short and return to the mainland via the Fishnish to Lochaline service, meaning a long drive through Morvern to catch the Corran Ferry and another long drive to get back to Argyll.

Reflecting on the permanent chaos that Scotland's ferry users face, Reid said:

“I experienced what islanders and visitors to the islands have had to put up with for years because of SNP mismanagement. I warned them 17 years ago that if they didn’t start a ferry building programme then this would happen.

“They didn’t take my advice then, and all this disruption to island life is the result. The SNP are directly responsible for the ferry fiasco and surely very few islanders will vote for them.

“What is needed now is to implement the Scottish Liberal Democrats' plan for a 30-year rolling programme of ferry construction and port infrastructure upgrades. It’s only common sense that new ferries have to be built before the old ones develop problems and start breaking down regularly.

“Our island communities deserve better than this. A vote for Scottish Liberal Democrats in May is a vote to bring this fiasco to an end.
