Hip and knee operations well below pre-pandemic levels

Responding to a new report from Public Health Scotland which indicates that the number of hip replacement operations is 21% below pre-pandemic levels while the number of knee replacements is 38% below what they were before the pandemic, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader and health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:  

“The SNP’s utter mismanagement of our NHS is unrelenting.  

“While patients wait in pain, the government show next to no signs of bringing down the backlog. Some patients are having to fork out for private healthcare, even although they may barely be able to afford it.

“To support staff and ensure that everyone waiting can be seen, Scottish Liberal Democrats want Humza Yousaf to tear up his botched NHS Recovery Plan and start again. He must urgently bring forward a new plan which priorities the recruitment and retention of staff by tackling burnout and setting up a health and social care staff assembly.”
