Greene urges Chancellor to take a walk as she visits Inverclyde
Speaking as Chancellor Rachel Reeves visited Inchgreen Port dry docks in Greenock, Inverclyde candidate and West of Scotland MSP Jamie Greene said:
“The £20 million investment into Inchgreen Drydock is a positive step forward for Inverclyde and one that the SNP should have committed to a long time ago.
“However, like many places it is wracked with unemployment, poorer health outcomes, lower life expectancy, growing crime and drug issues.
“With Inverclyde having lost almost 1,200 jobs since June 2022, it’s going to require more than just a single cash injection to give our local economy the boost it needs.
“So whilst Rachel Reeves is in Inverclyde I would urge her to remember that local people don’t care about photoshoots, they want jobs, opportunity and security, none of which appeared in her budget last week.
"I would recommend that she takes a good walk through Greenock town centre for a reality check, and speak to some of those businesses who are having a hard time of it thanks to her jobs tax making it harder to employ staff.
"I will continue to campaign for investment in our area, including the need for a regional wide marine strategy, so we can not just survive, but thrive as the Scottish marine powerhouse we used to be.
