Greene sets out what Scotland needs from UK budget
Speaking ahead of the budget, Scottish Liberal Democrat finance spokesperson Jamie Greene has set out key issues that need addressed to support economic growth in Scotland in today’s budget.
Mr Greene said:
“Labour are at risk of squandering an enormous opportunity. Their jobs tax has made it harder for firms to recruit staff and grow. The family farm tax has been a hammer blow to many farms up and down the country.
“A growing economy will expand the tax base and make it much easier to pay for great public services.
“That’s why in today’s budget we need to see cuts to spirit duty to support whisky, reforms to agricultural funding to ensure that Scottish produce thrives and an to London’s fishing failures so that Scotland’s islands get a fair deal from their fishing fund.
“Scotland already has one abject and economically illiterate government in the SNP. It doesn’t need another one in Westminster.
“Liberal Democrats have set out practical and fiscally responsible plans to grow the economy and get Scotland moving again. Rachel Reeves needs to get behind our plans.”
