Greene responds to “saddening” food bank findings
Responding to new findings from the Trussell Trust which show that tens of thousands of households in the UK will be forced to turn to a food bank for the first time this winter, with over 59,000 emergency food parcels distributed in Scotland and 5,400 Scottish households visiting a Trussell food bank for the first time last winter, Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Jamie Greene MSP said:
“It is saddening that so many people in modern Scotland will have to visit a food bank this winter.
“The scale of need is staggering. The rising cost of living is pushing greater numbers of people into financial crisis, with those on the lowest incomes affected the most.
“Scottish Liberal Democrats want a society where nobody is consigned to poverty and where no family ever has to use a food bank. We have a realistic plan to cut household bills, support more people into work, tackle the root causes of poverty and ensure every family can afford to eat this winter.
“It is also time both of Scotland’s governments stop bickering and blaming gaming and work together to tackle poverty and the rising cost of living.”
