Reform UK candidate Thomas Kerr has told the Daily Mail that far-right leader Tommy Robinson has done "good work" on grooming gangs, breaching a taboo declared by the party's Scottish leader Malcolm Offord just days ago.

Kerr, who as one of the party's top Scottish candidates frequently appears at Offord's side, made the remarks in an interview defending fellow Reform candidate Senga Beresford, who has endorsed Robinson and publicly backed statements from the Islamophobic BNP successor party Britain First.

Kerr's interview comes after Offord told ITV Border that his party shares "no common ground" with Robinson, and that he had instructed candidates not to endorse him.

Responding to Kerr's remarks, Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Inverclyde Jamie Greene said:

"Tommy Robinson is a far-right thug who spent time in prison for spreading racist lies about a Syrian refugee. There is no place in Scottish politics for him and his ideas, and anyone who gives him any credit whatsoever - Reform or otherwise - should be ashamed."
