Scottish Liberal Democrat Jamie Greene MSP has accused the Scottish Conservatives of “rank hypocrisy” after bringing forward a motion on the impact of asylum hotels, calling it “yet another example of a desperate party aping Reform”.

Jamie Greene said:

“This motion is yet another example of a desperate Conservative party trying to ape Reform in the face of obliteration in the polls.

“It is rank hypocrisy for the Conservatives to state that the policy of asylum hotels should never have been introduced, when it was a Conservative government that introduced it and let asylum backlogs spiral out of control. The fault for our broken asylum system lies squarely at their door.

“We need to bring some much-needed decency and reasonableness back into Scottish politics. Next May, you can do that by voting for a strong Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate.”
