Green challenges Scottish Labour leadership candidates to push Burnham over Europe and cost of living
Scottish Liberal Democrat external affairs spokesperson David Green MSP has today said that whoever is elected as the next Scottish Labour leader should press Andy Burnham to deliver a new deal with Europe to boost our defence and end the cost-of-living crisis.
David Green said:
"There are huge challenges ahead for whoever is elected Scottish Labour leader.
"After a poor election result, Labour need to pull their socks up. If Andy Burnham thinks he can just deliver Starmer policies with decent social media content, he is sorely mistaken.
"That same principle applies in Scotland. What people want is parties who finally deliver the change people are crying out for.
"Scottish Liberal Democrats believe in getting things done. Our fantastic group of MSPs is already having a big impact, persuading Parliament to back new support for coastal towns and more funding for communities impacted by renewable energy infrastructure.
"I hope that we will be working with a similarly constructive new Scottish Labour leader and I would urge whoever is elected on Saturday to join with the Scottish Liberal Democrats in pushing the Prime Minister for a new deal with Europe to boost our defence and end the cost-of-living crisis."
