Equivalent of more than 1 in 7 Scots on NHS waiting list

Responding to the latest Public Health Scotland figures which show that NHS waiting lists totalled 828,398 by the quarter ending September 30th, the equivalent of more than 1 in 7 Scots, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:  

“Every day, I hear from constituents about waits that feel like a lifetime. They are waiting for vital scans, critical tests, and life-saving treatment; it is a bleak reality replicated across Scotland.  

“Staff are working flat out, but SNP mismanagement of the health system has failed to give them the beds, safe staffing and resources they desperately need.    

“Michael Matheson cannot afford to let this spiral out of control. The Health Secretary must completely overhaul his predecessor’s failed recovery plan, bring forward a strategy that will meaningfully tackle burnout among staff and put their voices first to address the crisis."
