Don’t let Swinney’s independence obsession dominate next five years
Responding to John Swinney’s speech in which he commits to using the first hundred days of the next Scottish parliamentary term to hold a vote on approving the development of a Section 30 Order to give Scotland the power to hold an independence referendum, publish the draft Referendum Bill and convene a Constitutional Convention to help inform the Independence Referendum Bill and start drafting a constitution for an independent Scotland, Scottish Liberal Democrat campaign chair Wendy Chamberlain MP said:
“Straight from the horse’s mouth: from Shetland to Stranraer, every vote for the SNP will be taken as permission to obsess over independence.
“It won’t end in 100 days either. It’s their plan for the whole Parliament.
“Scottish Liberal Democrats believe Scotland deserves better than this. That’s why we are focused on delivering first-rate health care, helping you with the cost of living and getting Scottish education back to its best.
“In many constituencies we are on the verge of winning against the SNP but wherever you are, every vote for the Scottish Liberal Democrats on the second peach ballot will deliver change with fairness at its heart.”
