Responding to the news that the overnight vote count will be axed at the 2026 Scottish Parliament election, with votes being counted on the Friday following polling day instead, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

“This will be a relief to all the hardworking count staff and party activists who will get a very well-earned rest after an arduous election campaign.

“On that Friday after polling day, everyone across the country has a chance to have a Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP no matter where they live- you can do that by voting for us on your second, peach-coloured regional ballot paper.”
