Cole-Hamilton responds to nursing and midwifery report

Commenting on the publication of the Scottish Government nursing and midwifery taskforce report, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson and leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

“NHS staff are constantly reporting that they are dangerously understaffed and that the stress of the job is taking a huge toll on them. My party recently revealed that nurses and midwives have taken more than three quarters of a million sick days.

“When every shift can be a pressure cooker, it's no wonder nursing courses have gone unfilled for the last three years. The SNP Government has let staff down time and time again.

“I’m pleased to see frontline nurses and midwives have been consulted, but that needs to be turned into action.

“Ministers must set out a clear timeline for delivering these recommendations and properly supporting our hardworking NHS staff.”
