Cole-Hamilton demands SNP explain why no inspections at Skye House
Responding to a ministerial statement about the allegations of cruelty and abuse at Skye House, the country’s largest psychiatric hospital for children, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:
“We have an inspection regime for a reason, to pick up on deficiencies of practice and care. And yet, there wasn’t an inspection of Skye House between the years of 2017 and 2024. That is an absolute scandal.
“During that time, teenagers in deep crisis were subjected to cruelty, restrained with excessive force and humiliated.
“I am still not clear as to why this was not inspected for so long.
“It also begs the question of whether there are any other facilities for vulnerable young people where inspections are not taking place.”
