As he heads to campaign in Dunoon, Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP has said that people in Argyll & Bute will have a straight choice between SNP neglect or Lib Dem change with fairness at its heart at next May’s election.

Alex is campaigning in Dunoon with the party’s Scottish parliamentary candidate for Argyll & Bute, Alan Reid.

Alan was the Lib Dem MP for Argyll & Bute between 2001 and 2015. He was also a councillor for the Cowal ward for five years.

Holyrood elections in Argyll & Bute have always been won by either the Lib Dems or the SNP, and this one is no different.

Alan is campaigning for new ferries for the CalMac service between Dunoon and Gourock. These are desperately needed, but 18 years of SNP Government have failed to provide them.

Despite being hard hit by the ferries fiasco, Dunoon is one of the many communities in Argyll & Bute excluded from the SNP government’s ferries compensation scheme. This scheme also excludes several islands in the constituency- Mull, Iona, Islay, Jura, Tiree and Coll.

Scottish Liberal Democrats have launched a petition calling on the government to extend compensation to every community affected by ferries disruption. Alex Cole-Hamilton has also raised the issue directly with the First Minister, asking him to explain why so many communities will receive absolutely nothing in the way of compensation.

Alex Cole-Hamilton said:

“I am absolutely thrilled to be in Dunoon with our fantastic candidate Alan Reid.

“As the MP for Argyll & Bute for over fourteen years, Alan knows this constituency inside-out.  He’s passionate about helping people however he can, and he’s got the energy and experience to beat the SNP.

“Alan will fight tirelessly to fix the ferries, get people the local healthcare they need when they need it, insulate cold homes and bring down bills. That’s how we get Argyll & Bute moving again.

“At next May’s election, Argyll & Bute will be a two-horse race between the SNP and the Scottish Lib Dems. From Cowal to Campbeltown, only we can end years of SNP failures and deliver change with fairness at its heart for everyone in Argyll & Bute.”

Scottish Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Argyll & Bute Alan Reid said:

“From the ferries fiasco and the failure to fix the Rest & Be Thankful, to the loss of NHS dentists, Argyll and Bute deserves better than almost two decades of SNP failures.

“This election needs to be about getting Argyll & Bute moving again, from fixing our ferries and roads, to getting people the GP, dentist or hospital appointment they need when they need it, as well as helping with the cost of living. If elected, I will champion the issues people here care about.

“Next May, everyone in Argyll & Bute can count on the Scottish Liberal Democrats to take the fight to the SNP and deliver change with fairness at its heart.”
