A&E 12-hour waits are distressing new reality

Responding to new figures showing that in the week ending 6th September, 4,397 patients waited over 8 hours and 1,883 waited over 12 hours, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Adam Harley MSP said:

“12 hour waits at A&E, which barely existed when the SNP first took power, have become a distressing new reality.

“These waits are happening because too many hospital beds are occupied by patients who can’t get the care package they need to return home.

“We need reform that tackles the crisis in social care head-on, helping people leave hospital on time, freeing up bed space and getting everyone the care they need.”
