Les Tarr
Candidate for Banffshire and Buchan Coast
Les Tarr has lived in the Banffshire and Buchan constituency for 27 years, in Cullen, with his wife and little dog Milo.
He is a retired IT professional of some 40+ years, working largely in local government and the education sectors, and he has spent time in the private sector.
Les was for many years a steward, health and safety rep, and full-time Branch Secretary in the Aberdeen City Council Branch. His time as a full-time officer coincided with the Covid pandemic, which brought challenges to members working in the social care sector.
Les is a keen advocate for mental health and wellbeing initiatives and specialised during his union activity in this area and the areas of workplace stress.
At the Autumn conference of the Scottish Liberal Democrats in October 2025, Les proposed a motion on reversing the cuts to services for those with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's and Dementia. He is a keen advocate for charities and groups that fight against these debilitating conditions. Les is an old style liberal whose hero's include Joe Grimond, David Steel, Ming Campbell, Jim Wallace, and Malcolm Bruce.
In his spare time, Les enjoys listening to music, watching old movies, and reading. In addition, he is a 65+ gym bunny and writes crime and psychological thrillers.
