Jane Alliston Pickard

Jane lives and works in Edinburgh She studied Law and Politics at Edinburgh University, and began her working life as a Fund Manager. After starting a family and living overseas she returned to live in Scotland in 2010 and became active in local politics.
Over the last 15 years, Jane has retrained and worked as a mental health counsellor in the voluntary sector, a local high school and private practice with adults and young people. She’s a passionate believer in the ability of each person to thrive given the right circumstances.
Jane has volunteered in the past as both a parent mentor and on the board of HomeStart Edinburgh and is currently a volunteer within the Justice System. Her political activism is rooted in both experience of her childhood, where family break up created a burden of financial and caring pressure, family mental health challenges and from living overseas in a successful federal system. Her experience has shown her the barriers faced by residents of all ages, in mental health provision, in housing and in access to the right education to building a satisfying life. You can be certain that Jane will focus on the things that matter to Edinburgh residents.
