Watchdog reports ScotRail performance at 15 year low

Consumer watchdog, TransportFocus has today revealed that passenger satisfaction on ScotRail trains is at a 15 year low, reporting that overall satisfaction fell to 79% in the Autumn of 2018.

Taking into account issues such as punctuality, cancellations and value for money, ScotRail passengers are less happy than at any time since 2002, said the rail passenger watchdog.

Commenting on the report Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson and North East MSP Mike Rumbles said:

“It is getting harder for the Scottish Government to ignore the evidence in front of its nose. This publication is only the latest in a series of damning reports about ScotRail performance over the past year.

“Despite all the warning signs, there has been no meaningful action from Ministers to get to grip with the problems in our rail network. Quite the opposite in fact, the Scottish Government is more concerned with avoiding bad publicity than promoting the needs of passengers and has decided to remove penalties for bad performance until June 2019.

"The situation for passengers is worse now than it was before the current franchise started. If things don’t improve rapidly the Scottish Government should cut the contract short and look for a new operator.”
