Responding to the news that performance against the A&E target was the worst on record during the final week of 2017, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:
"Performance against the A&E waiting time target has plummeted, despite the number of attendances being about average.
"NHS staff are working incredibly hard and health boards are having to take unprecedented measures to keep services afloat.
“Patients and staff will be hoping that these figures shatter the SNP Government's complacency when it comes to tackling the challenges facing our health service."

Across Scotland, just 78% of patients were seen within 4 hours in the week ending 31 December 2017. The worst performance against the target was recorded at Forth Valley Royal Hospital where 57% of patients were seen within this time, followed by the QEUH in Glasgow at 63.3%.
For the first time over 1,000 patients waited over 8 hours while 272 waited over 12 hours.
