The Liberal Democrats in Scotland are campaigning to keep free TV licences for over 75s.
The Conservative Government has scrapped free TV licences from 1st August, which will impact on over 251,000 older residents in Scotland. We all know how important TV can be to elderly residents, providing social experiences and crucial public information.
The Liberal Democrats want to see the Government step in and provide funding to reinstate free licenses given the crisis we are facing. We are also calling for an independent body to review the license fee going forward.
During the pandemic, the TV has been a lifeline for many elderly residents who’ve taken the government’s advice and stayed at home.
We call on the Government to reinstate the free TV licences for the over 75s.
