Swinson launches attack on nationalist politicians as campaign enters final week

Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson has today used a rally in Edinburgh marking the start of the final week of the campaign to attack Boris Johnson and the SNP for attempting to divide our family of nations.

Jo Swinson said:

"I am a proud Scot. I was born in Glasgow, grew up in Milngavie, and have represented the people of East Dunbartonshire for over twelve years.

"And there is nothing I love more than exploring our beautiful Scotland with my two little boys, whether it’s walking in Mugdock Country Park or playing on the beach in Portmahomack.

"And I am absolutely determined to keep our United Kingdom together."

On Boris Johnson, she said:

"Boris Johnson says he is committed to our family of nations.

"But we all know that he’s never been much of a family man.

"Why else would he try to put a border down the Irish sea?

On the SNP and Scottish independence, Jo Swinson said:

"The SNP try to pretend that if you’re against independence, you’re somehow against Scotland.

"They are wrong.

"I am Scottish. I am British. And I am European.

"That’s why I’m fighting for Scotland to stay in the UK, and for the UK to stay in the European Union, because I believe that we are always better when we work with our friends.

"I believe that Scotland is better than what the SNP want us to be.

"We are more open than they say we are. More generous. More collaborative.

"The SNP say we don’t believe in Scotland, but they’re the ones selling us short."
