The news that the SNP have done no modelling for a post-Brexit farm payment system has come as ’no surprise’, North East MSP and Scottish Liberal Democrat affairs rural spokesperson Mike Rumbles has today said.
Mr Rumbles added:
“Over a year ago the Scottish Parliament unanimously passed my amendment calling on the Scottish Government to set out options for rural support beyond 2020.
“I said that the Scottish Government needed to set up a team of specialists to advise them on the best way to create a system that works to the strengths of the Scotland’s rural economy and since then I have consistently pursued Cabinet Secretary Fergus Ewing on this in the chamber and in committee.
“I am delighted that after more than a year the Scottish Conservatives have at last woken up and they too are now pressing the SNP government to get their act together. The Tories' support for action is very welcome, it’s always better late than never."
"The Scottish Government need to get their heads out of the sand over post-Brexit farming support."
