Candidate for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch
I was a school-teacher in Highland schools for over 30 years – first Primary, then Secondary. I also ran a bookshop and have written several books about Highland history – for which I have a passion. I am now a Highland councillor – elected in a by-election in 2018 where we beat the SNP.
I sit on a number of Council Committees including Corporate Resources; Economy & Infrastructure; Health, Social Care & Wellbeing; Tourism; Gaelic; Climate Change Working Group.
With support from my Lib Dem colleagues we have managed to push a number of climate-friendly motions through Council – establishing Highland as a Carbon Sink; encouraging remote-working; investigating District Heating Systems and, most recently, to get Highland into a better position with the UK’s Levelling Up and Community Renewal Funds.
My key concerns are Recovery – in an area where tourism is crucial, but has been devastated by the pandemic. Climate Change – THE problem of the 21st century. Localism – Devolution shouldn’t stop at Edinburgh.
