Scottish Liberal Democrats have said that urgent action is required to protect North East patients. It comes after the publication today of three damning reports into NHS Grampian by Healthcare Improvement Scotland and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Scottish Liberal Democrat North East MSP Alison McInnes commented:
“It is a huge testament to the efforts and commitment of frontline NHS Grampian staff that patient care has not been significantly compromised in the face of the problems identified by the reports. But it is also clear that their goodwill cannot continue to compensate for cultural failings, defective patient management systems and dysfunctional relationships further up the organisation.
“The Scottish Government has failed to heed a series of warnings about the challenges facing NHS Grampian. During their three-year referendum campaign they neglected the needs of North East patients and have continued to underfund the health board.
“The Scottish Government must immediately set out how it will assist NHS Grampian in addressing the issues raised in these reports and protecting local patients.”
