Scottish Government contributing to NHS executive exodus

Commenting on reports that 7 Scottish health boards will need to seek new chief executives in the coming months due to staff moving on or retiring, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

"There is a recruitment crisis at every level of the NHS. Staff are run off their feet on every shift, Nicola Sturgeon's cuts to training places have caused real damage, spending on agency staff has doubled, and each year thousands of staff feel the need to formally report their concerns over staffing levels.

"The Government has got to take a share of the blame for this NHS executive exodus. They have created a set of conditions in which health bosses are set up to fail.

"Scottish Liberal Democrats are demanding the Health Minister publish an annual report on workforce planning and lead an annual debate on it at Parliament. That would mean in future failings can be identified and rectified before it’s too late.

"I will be tabling questions at Parliament to ensure the Scottish Government gets on top of this."
