Scott: Teacher strike shows SNP leading Scotland back to Thatcher years

Responding to comments from Seamus Searsson, General Secretary of the SSTA teaching union, suggesting that strike action is "very likely", Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP said:

"This is a problem that is entirely of John Swinney's own making. If these strikes go ahead they will be the first national teaching strikes in Scotland since the Thatcher years.

“Teachers' warnings about soaring workloads, cuts to classroom support and lagging pay and conditions have been ignored. They have every right to demand better.

"It is time that the Education Secretary listened to teachers and put a fair deal in place, backed by McCrone 2 - an independent expert review of teachers' terms and the demands placed upon them."
