Scott: SNP has failed on its commitment to smaller class sizes

Responding to the School Census and Curriculum for Excellence statistics published this morning, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP said:

“150,000 Scottish children are being taught in larger classes with teachers who are overstretched. This is having an impact on children from lower-income backgrounds and makes it harder for them to address the attainment gap. Today’s stats show that.

“Our schools are in desperate need of investment to make our education system one of the best in the world again. That is what the Scottish Government must deliver with its draft budget later this week.

“Today’s figures show that after a decade in power, the SNP has failed to deliver on its commitment of smaller class sizes for our youngest pupils.”
