Responding to today's Scottish Government statement on childcare, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott said:
"This is an objective that all parties share but to deliver this policy will now require 11,000 new people in 18 months.
"As Audit Scotland pointed out in February, the Scottish Government has left this far too late to deliver.
"Ministers must recognise the huge task they face in delivering on this commitment. Parents need accessible and flexible care for their children but above all this policy needs people. Just where are they going to come from when we have teacher and adult social care sector staff shortages?"
