Commenting on new employment figures compiled by the Scottish Government and released today, Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Carolyn Caddick said:
"Scotland's economic performance has been sluggish and mediocre for the better part of a decade.
“Brexit is hitting the UK's economic performance but this analysis shows that the Scottish Government cannot simply point the finger elsewhere. On their watch job creation trails behind every other part of the UK.
"That's why Scottish Liberal Democrats have been calling for a transformational investment in education and training to deliver the productive workforce Scotland needs for the future."
Commenting on statistics showing almost twice as many as people aged 65 or over were in employment last year, Ms Caddick said:
"It’s important that we ensure that opportunities are available for people aged 65 or over to contribute to our businesses and workplaces if they wish to do so.
"Scottish Liberal Democrats want to see more employers commit to becoming age-inclusive workplaces including training managers on age-related issues and providing access to flexible working."
