Commenting on official homelessness statistics released today, Scottish Liberal Democrat social security spokesperson Caron Lindsay commented:
“It is appalling to learn that there has been a 16% increase in the number of children in temporary accommodation in the last year. The disruption, insecurity and stress that this causes is unacceptable.
“The SNP Government has failed these children and their families. They have failed to get to grips with the housing crisis. Downgrading the target for building social housing during the last Parliament means there are thousands fewer homes available for social rent than there should have been.
“That is why Scottish Liberal Democrats will continue to press SNP ministers to increase the number of homes for social rent, helping avoid the disruption and upset that can be caused to children in temporary accommodation. We will also oppose callous Conservative social security plans that would leave many families already struggling to get by worse off and at greater risk of homelessness.”
