Scottish Liberal Democrat spokesperson on Connectivity, Mike Rumbles MSP, has welcomed new advertising regulation for broadband providers, ensuring that publicised speeds are available to at least 50% of customers at peak times.
The North East MSP said:
“This is a welcome step forward for broadband customers. Fast and reliable internet access is no longer a luxury, it is absolutely essential for many homes and businesses.
“People’s experiences of internet speeds differ greatly across the country, especially in rural, remote and island communities, and often it is not until all the equipment has been paid for and installed that they find out the service isn’t quite as offered. These new regulations will help customers make a more informed choice and help them recoup the costs if they are misled by false advertising.
“The Scottish Government has repeatedly promised to provide access to speeds of 30mbps or more to every home in Scotland by 2021. With these new regulations in place all we need now is for the Scottish Government to get on and deliver.”
