Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP has used today's debate on bus transport to call on the Scottish Government to “protect and enhance” concessionary schemes.
Mr Rumbles said:
“Increasing bus use is good for our local environment and for people’s health, yet the Scottish Government has sat on its hands while bus travel fell below 400 million journeys per year for the first time. There are real fears its next move will be to reduce access to the concessionary travel scheme.
“That would be a counterproductive move. Protecting and enhancing concessionary travel and promoting public transport is essential to achieving our climate change goals, improving the health of our nation and reducing social isolation. Let’s not stop convincing people to get out their cars."
