Scottish Liberal Democrat rural affairs spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP today urged the Scottish Government to help give farmers in Scotland the stability they need.
Mr Rumbles was speaking as the NFUS joined farmers across the UK in calling on devolved governments guarantee that Treasury funds are spent on agriculture as announced.
“Any funding that is earmarked for farmers must be passed on in full, no ifs no buts.
“In the past the Scottish Government have let down the industry over CAP payments and now they have a chance to act and guarantee that any payments will be passed directly on to farmers. Anything less would be a betrayal of the industry.
"Our farmers have already been through months of uncertainty as a result of the SNP's CAP payment shambles. Now more than ever they need stability. Ministers must send a clear signal that farmers can invest in their businesses in the knowledge that the Scottish Government will not pull the plug on farm funding."
