Commenting as unions warned a lack of leadership by the Scottish Government could see the Scotland lose out on billions of pounds of decommissioning work, Scottish Liberal Democrat Mike Rumbles MSP said:
“In the last week alone it has been confirmed that Scotland has lost out on a major decommissioning contract to yards in Norway. Unless we act now, this will not be the only deal going to our international competitors.
"Tens of thousands of jobs have been lost in recent months across the North East. Decommissioning is a lifeline that we must not let pass us by.
“We cannot afford to see the prospect of much needed jobs for workers in the energy sector vanish across the North Sea. The unions are right that we are not getting the political leadership we need at present from the Scottish Government. We need to do everything we can to ensure that these jobs stay in Scotland.”
