Responding to comments from European Commission officials on the future of CAP payments, Scottish Liberal Democrat rural affairs spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP said:
"Brexit absolutely must not be allowed to take a scythe to our rural regions. Reduced payments to producers and new barriers to market spells disaster.
"As well as undertaking valuable stewardship of our land, farming drives a swathe of other economic activity in our rural communities. Unfortunately the Scottish and UK governments seem more concerned with firing potshots at one another than helping these communities thrive.
"Both of Scotland's governments need to be doing far more to safeguard services and opportunities in rural communities, not allow them to drift away in the wind."
