Rennie unveils new gender-balanced spokesperson team

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has today unveiled his new spokesperson team who will lead the party through the second half of the parliamentary term and towards the 2021 election.

Having previously chaired the party’s 2017 local election campaign, Katy Gordon will now take on the Economy and Fair Work portfolio, while deputy leader of Perth & Kinross Council Peter Barrett will handle the Communities and Local Government brief.

Deputy group leader on Aberdeenshire Council Rosemary Bruce will take on Public Health while Emma Walker will build on the party’s campaigning work on Mental Health.

Former headteacher Carole Ford will be the party’s spokesperson on Children and Young People with North East Fife PPC Wendy Chamberlain representing the party on Constitutional Relations.

Rounding off the team Rebecca Bell will be the party’s new Environment spokesperson, with Berwickshire, Roxburgh & Selkirk PPC Jenny Marr covering Rural Affairs and the Natural Environment.

Renfrewshire councillor Eileen McCartin will continue as Culture and Tourism spokesperson as will Caron Lindsay as Social Security and Housing spokesperson.

Commenting on the appointments, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:

“I would like to thank Mariam Mahmood, Karen Clark, Carolyn Caddick and Sheila Thomson for their hard work over the past three years.

“From mental health to a People’s Vote, Scottish Liberal Democrats have been leading the political agenda in Scotland. This new team is bursting with talented people who have contributed a huge amount to the communities they serve, from councillors to campaigners, and bring a wealth of experience to the team.

“Hardworking people across Scotland are not getting what they deserve for their efforts. I know that this new gender balanced team will provide strong liberal voices demanding better inside and outside parliament, putting Liberal Democrats in the best possible position as we look to make gains at the next election.”
