Responding to the First Minister's comments on the prospect of a People's Vote, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:
"The First Minister's answers in Parliament today exposed that for her this is about fanning the flame of independence, not offering the public the best chance of keeping the whole of the UK in the EU.
"There are now clear majorities both sides of the border for remaining in the EU. Rather than carping from the sidelines as the UK bombs out of the EU, the First Minister has an opportunity to show some leadership and take the fight to the Conservatives.
"On Europe we don’t have to be on opposite sides. Commit to campaign for a People's Vote and we can rally support up and down the UK."
