Rennie: SNP rattled after full week of campaigning where Lib Dems challenge them

Willie Rennie today completes the first full week of the General Election campaign by visiting Helensburgh in Argyll & Bute, another constituency where the local election results confirm the Liberal Democrats as the challengers to the SNP.

At the local elections the Liberal Democrats were strongest in the seats where they are challenging the SNP to gain; East Dunbartonshire, Edinburgh West, North East Fife, the Highlands and Gordon. The Liberal Democrats gained in Argyll and Bute, when Alan Reid got elected to the council in a ward that has never been won before by the Liberal Democrats.

Willie Rennie has spent the whole of the first week of the General Election campaign visiting the seats where the Lib Dems are challenging to gain from the SNP. The party points out that Nicola Sturgeon has also visited those same seats this week. The First Minister has visited East Dunbartonshire, North East Fife and Inverness.

Commenting Willie Rennie said:

“The SNP are rattled. They have spent three whole days trying to stop us. The First Minister has been playing ‘me and my shadow’.

“Everywhere I go, the SNP follow. We know we are the challengers in these seats. The SNP know we are the challengers. It is now up to local people to rally behind the Liberal Democrat challenger to stop the SNP.

“We can stop another divisive independence referendum. We can stop a damaging hard Brexit from the Conservatives. And we can stand up for investment in education and mental health.”
