Responding to the reports in the Herald on Sunday that the number of faults outstanding on the ferries at Fergusons increased from 175 in January to 237 in March, Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Willie Rennie MSP commented:
“This will come as worrying news for all the islanders who have been left without the ferries they need for years already. The ageing fleet is experiencing breakdown after breakdown and its having a crushing impact on rural businesses, tourism and everyone who relies on these services.
“The fact no SNP minister is willing to accept responsibility is galling. To see the SNP’s Pete Wishart then even mock those who ask questions shows utter contempt. People are being taken for granted.
“Workers, taxpayers and islanders all deserve a public inquiry.”
