Rennie: Latest figures show census going at “snail’s pace”

Responding to reports that Scotland’s census uptake has increased barely 5% to 82.6% since the Scottish Government announced a short extension last month, Scottish Liberal Democrat communities spokesperson Willie Rennie MSP commented:

“The census is being completed at a snail’s pace. We can’t afford for this once-in-a-decade opportunity to inform the delivery of public services to fall short.

“The Scottish Government needs to be open about why progress continues to be slow and what more it will now do to resolve this headache. If the plan is now to start knocking doors then we need to know how many people are being drafted in. With another deadline looming there is no time to wait.”
